Why Google Voice is different

Most business phones forward calls with a quick dial code like *72. Google Voice does not use those codes, and it cannot forward only your missed calls. Instead, you link your Nevermiss number inside Google Voice so your receptionist answers your calls and texts you every lead the moment the caller hangs up. The whole setup takes about two minutes.

Step 1: Link your Nevermiss number

  • Open voice.google.com (or the Google Voice app) and go to Settings.
  • Find Linked numbers (called Devices and numbers in the app) and choose New linked number.
  • Enter your Nevermiss number. It is on your dashboard, right at the top.

Step 2: Verify by phone, not by text

When Google asks how to verify the number, choose Verify by phone. A text code will never arrive, so always pick the phone call.

Google places a short call that your receptionist answers, and the 6 digit code lands in two places: Nevermiss texts it to you the moment the call ends, and it also appears on your dashboard as your newest call. Type the code into the Google Voice box and the link is done.

If Google says you have tried too many times, that is a temporary safety limit on their side. Wait a few hours and try once more.

Step 3: Turn off three Google Voice settings

In Google Voice Settings, under Calls, switch these off:

  • My devices ringing, so your receptionist answers instead of your phone. Leave only your Nevermiss number switched on under call forwarding.
  • Screen calls, so callers are never asked to press 1 before the receptionist picks up.
  • Show my Google Voice number as caller ID when forwarding calls, so your lead alerts show the real caller’s number.

Step 4: Test it

Call your business number from a different phone. Your receptionist should answer, and a few seconds after you hang up, a text lands with what the caller needed. That is it, you are set.

Good to know

  • Google Voice forwards every call, not just the ones you miss. Your receptionist answers everything and you work from the instant texts, so you never lose a lead to voicemail.
  • You can still make calls and send texts from the Google Voice app exactly like before.
  • Want urgent callers put straight through to your cell? Turn on live transfer in your Nevermiss settings and the receptionist connects them to you.
  • If Google keeps refusing to verify the number, contact us. We can walk it through with you, or move your number onto Nevermiss so no forwarding is needed at all.
